Welcome back to the new school term. Just to update you on the latest news regarding Fripronil infected Dutch eggs.
As you are aware eggs produced in many EU counties have been infected by Fipronil which is not safe for human consumption. Although the infected eggs have been sold as fresh eggs in Europe the FSA have stated that in the UK any infected eggs have NOT been sold as fresh eggs. Any infected eggs imported into the UK have been used in processed foods where egg is only one of the ingredients. Manufacturers have been alerted and products identified as containing infected eggs have been removed from sale.
However, we were informed that only 21,000 eggs imported into this country had been infected but it is now likely the amount is nearer to 700,000. Therefore, it is likely that more news will be forthcoming over the next week.
Alert – To be clear, no eggs produced in the UK are infected. Therefore, we recommend using only UK produced eggs which will also satisfy any concerns your customers may have.
Food Fact – Did you know…..Eggs age more in one day at room temperature than in one week in the refrigerator.
We will alert you if any news is likely to have an impact on your school.
